New York [US]: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed their concern over the harsh decision of the Taliban to ban girls’ education in Afghanistan and stated this is an unjustifiable violation of equal rights and this decision can destroy the entire country.

Furthermore, Guterres stated, “I deeply regret that the Taliban government suspend the girl education above 6th standard. This is clearly an unjustifiable violation of equal rights that can damage the whole country.”

The UN chief further said that support for Afghan women and girls is the support that lifts children out of hunger and communities out of poverty.

Before the Taliban regime issued a law banning female students above grade six from attending classes and having studies till sixth, they told them to stay home until the Islamic Emirate declared its next decision.

This decision by the Islamic Emirate of banning girls from taking education has attracted severe backlash globally, with the Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America denouncing the Taliban’s decision to deny so many Afghan girls the opportunity to go back to school finally.

Seven-eight months after the takeover by the Taliban, Afghanistan is hanging by a thread. Last month, the administration banned women from doing yoga and called it ‘indecent’. Afghans, regular life has become a frozen hell.

Families crowd in makeshift tents under plastic sheets – even burning their possessions to keep warm. Clinics are crowded – and under-resourced. Ambulances and hospital power generators are running dehydrated because of soaring fuel prices.

Even, Millions of children – especially girls – are out of school, and 70 percent of teachers are not paid. Over 50 percent of Afghans face severe levels of hunger. In twenty years, the country faces its worst drought, pushing 9 million people closer to famine.
