Head of State concludes UK tour

His Excellency, the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, concludes his visit to the United Kingdom and Rome today. He will now depart for the Middle East.

His Excellency spent the last few days at Birmingham, where he attended the opening of the Commonwealth Games and also met the Lord Mayor of the City of Birmingham, Ms Maureen Cornish and was given a tour of City Hall.

President Katonivere also met with the Governor General of New Zealand, Her Excellency, the Right Honorable Cindy Kiro, in a breakfast meeting.


 

 


The Head of State was also given a tour of the British Army garrison unit, the Stirling Lines of the 22 Special Air Service Regiment (22 SAS) base in Credenhill, Herefordshire.

From Birmingham, His Excellency flew to Rome for an audience with His Holiness, Pope Francis at the Vatican City.

In the Middle East, President Katonivere will visit our peacekeeping forces which will also be his inaugural tour after taking office as Head of State, and pay a courtesy visit to the President of the State of Israel, His Excellency, Davis Herzog, and the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre at Yad Vashem.

The Commander of the Fiji Military Forces, Jone Kalouniwai and Fiji’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Mr Naipote Katonitabua, will accompany the Presidential entourage during this visit to the Middle East.
