Saudi Arabia international Fahad Al-Muwallad, 30, is currently in intensive care following a fall from a balcony at his apartment in Dubai. Al-Muwallad’s club, Al-Shabab, confirmed the accident occurred on Thursday, though details surrounding the incident remain under investigation by local authorities.
Al-Muwallad, a key figure in Saudi football with 78 caps for the national team, fell from the second floor of his Dubai residence, according to a statement released by local police.
“Investigations are ongoing, and the competent authorities will be informed of the results of these investigations once they are completed,” the police added. At this stage, there is no further information on what led to the fall.
The winger, who started his professional career with Saudi club Al-Ittihad, moved to Al-Shabab in 2022 after spending over a decade at his boyhood club. During his time with Al-Ittihad, Al-Muwallad became a fan favorite, known for his speed, technical ability, and his contributions to the club’s successes in domestic competitions.
At Al-Shabab, Al-Muwallad plays alongside renowned international stars such as former Wolves forward Daniel Podence and Belgium’s Yannick Carrasco, who have recently joined the Saudi Pro League amid its growing reputation for attracting top global talents.
Al-Muwallad’s international career has been equally impressive. He played a pivotal role in Saudi Arabia’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he appeared in two matches for his country.
That same year, he was loaned to Spanish club Levante, making two appearances in La Liga, an important milestone for a Saudi player in one of Europe’s top leagues.
Known for his explosive speed and flair on the wing, Al-Muwallad has been instrumental in Saudi Arabia’s football development over the past decade.
However, his career faced a setback in 2019 when he was handed a one-year ban after testing positive for a banned substance. Despite the suspension, he returned stronger, securing a place in the Saudi national team and becoming an integral part of Al-Shabab’s squad.
Al-Shabab expressed concern for their player following the accident, asking fans to keep Al-Muwallad in their thoughts as he receives medical care. The club’s statement read: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Fahad and his family during this difficult time. We are in constant communication with his medical team and hope for a swift recovery.”
As the football community rallies around Al-Muwallad, many players and fans have taken to social media to express their support. Messages of solidarity have poured in, with teammates, friends, and supporters hoping for positive news about his condition.
Fahad Al-Muwallad’s fall is the latest in a series of unfortunate events affecting prominent footballers in the region, raising awareness of the importance of player safety off the pitch.
Authorities are expected to release more details once the investigation into the accident concludes.
For now, the focus remains on Al-Muwallad’s health as he continues to receive treatment in intensive care. Fans across the football world will be hoping for a full and speedy recovery for one of Saudi Arabia’s brightest stars.
