A video clip that appeared to show Saudi Arabian police executing a dramatic high-speed car chase in the streets of Riyadh has gone viral across social media platforms, but authorities have confirmed that the footage was part of a planned mock drill ahead of the Hajj 2025 pilgrimage.
The video, which has garnered thousands of views and reposts on Instagram and Facebook, shows a white car speeding ahead while a police SUV performs a sudden drift, maneuvering skillfully to cut in front of the vehicle and bring it to an abrupt halt.
In a scene that looks straight out of an action movie, an officer leaps from the police vehicle and smashes into the windshield of the white car, while another squad car arrives from behind to block any chance of escape.
Initially mistaken by many viewers as a real-life police pursuit of a criminal, the clip impressed users with its cinematic intensity and slick coordination.
“This is better than any Hollywood chase,” commented one viewer. Others applauded the officers’ apparent bravery and swift response, unaware that the scenario was staged.
However, several observant users quickly raised questions about the authenticity of the chase. “Looks like a drill or shoot. There are many police vehicles in the background which were already at rest. Big screen showing the chase, car didn’t try to evade after being stopped from front,” noted a Facebook user, correctly identifying the setting as part of a larger demonstration.
It has since been confirmed that the video was filmed during a public security parade held in Makkah on May 31, 2025. The event was part of Saudi Arabia’s extensive preparations for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, which draws more than a million pilgrims from around the world each year.
Organised by Saudi security forces, the parade and mock drills aimed to test the readiness of various units responsible for ensuring the safety and logistical coordination of the pilgrimage.
The demonstrations included synchronized military formations, rapid-response drills by commando units, and simulated emergency scenarios such as crowd disturbances, medical evacuations, and potential threats.
The car chase segment was one of several staged displays designed to showcase the operational capabilities of Saudi police and their preparedness for any crisis during the pilgrimage season.
Photos from the drill, released by AFP, show heavily armed officers, armored vehicles, and helicopters participating in the exercise.
Authorities have reiterated that such exercises are crucial in preparing for large-scale events like Hajj, where crowd control, public safety, and rapid response to emergencies are paramount.
With tens of thousands of pilgrims arriving in Saudi Arabia for the 2025 Hajj, the Kingdom has stepped up efforts to ensure a safe and incident-free experience for worshippers.
While the video may have caused some confusion online, it has also highlighted the impressive coordination and training of Saudi Arabia’s security forces.
As the clip continues to circulate, many users are now sharing it with a clearer understanding of its purpose — a rehearsal for one of the world’s largest and most complex annual gatherings.
