Dubai, UAE – Meta has introduced its latest artificial intelligence (AI)-powered wearables, blending mixed reality and AI to revolutionize user interactions.
Announced during the second day of the World Government Summit in Dubai, the groundbreaking technology integrates augmented reality (AR) with intelligent voice commands to provide a seamless digital experience.
The company also unveiled expanded Arabic language support for Meta AI, making it more accessible across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Nicola Mendelsohn, Head of the Global Business Group at Meta, highlighted the innovation behind these new wearables. “Our AI-powered glasses bring together mixed reality and augmented reality in an affordable, lightweight, and balanced design,” she stated.
The technology allows users to interact with virtual objects naturally, offering an immersive experience that bridges the physical and digital worlds.
A Glimpse into the Future of Wearables
One of the standout features of Meta’s AI-powered glasses is their ability to enhance real-world interactions. For instance, users can zoom in on distant text and make purchases using voice commands.
“Imagine walking past a billboard with a tempting offer that’s too far to read. With our AI wearables, you can zoom in, read the text, and place an order using just your voice,” Mendelsohn explained.
Meta envisions a future where AI wearables seamlessly integrate into daily life, recognizing visual and auditory inputs to assist users proactively.
“Eventually, Meta AI will see what you see, hear what you hear, and take actions based on your surroundings. If you spot a phone number on a board and ask AI to save it, it can scan and store it for you,” she added.
Expanding AI’s Reach in MENA
Beyond hardware advancements, Meta AI has broadened its capabilities with Arabic language support. “On February 3, we proudly introduced Meta AI to the Middle East and North Africa region, making it more accessible for millions,” Mendelsohn announced. The move aligns with the UAE’s vision of fostering technological innovation and inclusivity.
She further emphasized Meta’s commitment to open-source AI, a principle that aligns with the UAE’s transparency-driven approach to technology. “Open-source AI levels the playing field, allowing more countries to compete in the global economy,” she noted.
AI in Content Creation and Advertising
Meta’s advancements extend beyond wearables, with AI-driven tools set to transform content creation and advertising. One notable development is an AI-powered voice translation feature that seamlessly dubs and lip-syncs videos into multiple languages. “This will allow content creators to reach new audiences effortlessly,” Mendelsohn revealed.
In advertising, AI is already making a significant impact. “Almost all of our advertisers now use at least one of our Meta Advantage products. More than 4 million advertisers globally are leveraging our generative AI tools to create multiple ad variations, enhancing creativity while reducing costs,” she stated.
The UAE’s Role in AI Leadership
Mendelsohn praised the UAE’s leadership in AI innovation, recalling a pivotal moment in the country’s tech history. “I remember the appointment in 2017 of Omar Sultan Al Olama as the world’s first Minister of AI. The UAE has always embraced bold technological visions, and today marks another exciting chapter,” she said.
With AI poised to revolutionize industries, scientific research, and the global economy, Meta remains committed to pioneering advancements that reshape everyday experiences. “We’re at the threshold of another tech revolution, and Meta is proud to be part of this journey,” Mendelsohn concluded.
The unveiling of AI-powered wearables and Arabic language support solidifies Meta’s role in the next wave of digital transformation, reinforcing its commitment to accessibility and innovation in the MENA region.
