Around 200 Turkish mothers are organizing to knit skullcaps, gloves, scarfs, sweaters, and vests for their children to feel safe in the harsh winter conditions in Syria and Afghanistan.
The moms of children gathered at the Humanitarian Relief Foundation’s (IHH) office in Turkey’s eastern Elazığ region launched a campaign called “Winter freezes and we warm”. They started this campaign to help the needy children in Syria in Afghanistan.
The women of Syria and Afghan’s women are supporting the campaign get together at the Public Education Center in the region Baskil dir=strict and work tirelessly to weave for the children in the war-torn countries, as some women contribute to the campaign from their homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic measures.
The campaign continues for two months, in which they provide handmade clothes to the 2,500 children in Syria and Afghanistan.
According to the IHH official ‘Edanur Ozdemir’, they started the campaign when they saw that children of Syria and Afghan were suffering from an extreme cold because they did not have proper socks to cover themselves.
Furthermore, Ozedemir stated that they met with the fathers who stood the whole night so that their children did not freeze; Ozedemir added that women are also working hard so that they can help needy people in war-torn countries.
She stated, “I am happy that we can send these clothes to the children there. We literally worked tirelessly so that children do not suffer and every family get what they want.”
The country officials instantly send the clothes after their completion, and they have sent clothes at least for the 700 children to the camps in Afghanistan and Syria so far.
As per the qualified instructor at the Public Education Center in Baskil, Seher Çalışır also stated that the institution also supports the cause.
She noted that our trainees leave their own work only to work behind, supporting the campaign.
“We are accomplishing everything we can so that children won’t freeze.”
