Dominica: The Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Commonwealth of Dominica – Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, participated in the two-day Regional Symposium yesterday, April 17, 2023, under the theme of “Violence as a Public Health Issue – The Crime Challenge,” held at Port in Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

As per the recent updates, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit shared a glimpse of his visit to the Regional Symposium through his official social media handle with the residents of Dominica.

During the meeting, he was accompanied by the Heads of the CARICOM (The Caribbean Community and Common Market). All the leaders from different Caribbean countries discussed the rise in crime and violence during the conference and raised awareness regarding the needed action to reduce it.

As per the social media post of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, noted “I am currently attending the two-day Regional Symposium on “Violence as a Public Health Issue – The Crime Challenge” in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.” 

In addition, he also expressed his views and opinion on the pressing issues and challenges that the Caribbean countries are facing as nations in terms of crime and violence.

Meanwhile, he outlined that the CARICOM (The Caribbean Community and Common Market) Heads shed light on the issues per their respective thoughts and contributions. 

On his part, PM Roosevelt Skerrit wrote, “The symposium seeks to promote dialogue and action at the regional level to reduce violence and prevent crime.”

In his address, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, further added that all the engaging countries stressed on the collective effort to control and reduce the crime and violence in the Caribbean region.

To tackle the pressing concerns about crime rates and violence, he also represents various aspects and innovative measures under the consideration of the government of Dominica.

Moreover, during the conference, it was also stated that the issues related to crime and violence are also connected to public health as they reflect the mental status of a person involved in such criminal activities. 

Additionally, Prime Minister also cited that the problem can be tackled through a collective effort from all the Caribbean countries within a workable framework.  

Throughout the Regional Symposium, PM Skerrit was accompanied by his counterparts from the sister Caribbean countries such as Saint Lucia, St Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago and other island nations.
