PM Skerrit set to participate in CARICOM and CELAC Meetings

Roseau, Dominica: The Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit is ready to participate in the Forty-Sixth Regular Meeting of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government in Georgetown, Guyana, starting from February 25th to 28th, 2024.

The purpose of the Forty-Sixth Regular Meeting of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will aim to focus on various regional matters of the Caribbean nations with a significant focus on Crime and Violence, Territorial Threats, Climate Change, Regional Food and Nutrition Security, Developments in Regional Transportation, Climate Change and Climate Financing, Global and Hemispheric Issues.

The Heads of the Caribbean Community will also discuss the ongoing situation in Haiti, a topic of shared concern, and receive information on the implementation of the decision to work towards free movement for all Caribbean Community nationals.

An essential aspect of regional integration and cooperation, Free Movement for All Caribbean Community Nationals will also be discussed by them in the meeting.

They will discuss the common goals of all the Caribbean nations like promoting economic integration and cooperation among its members, ensuring that the benefits of integration are equitably shared, and coordinating foreign policy.

Prime Minister Skerrit will then move to St. Vincent and the Grenadines to attend the 8th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which will be held on March 1st, 2024, Friday.

The Schedule of the CELAC Summit is as follows:

Date: March 1st, 2024
Location: Sandals Resort at Buccament, St. Vincent and the Grenadines

The 8th CELAC Summit will focus on the strengthening of the CELAC and the sustainable development of the Latin American and Caribbean regions. The two-day summit’s program includes an opening ceremony on the morning of March 1, followed by plenary sessions, and concludes with a media briefing.

During PM Skerrit’s absence, Honorable Dr. Irving McIntyre, the Minister for Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, and Social Security will serve as the Acting Prime Minister.
