St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew presented an update regarding the Hurricane Beryl that arrived in the Caribbean region, this month. Beryl is passing through the Caribbean nations and has affected the people.
As per the report, following the passage of Hurricane Beryl in Grenada, Petite Martinique and Carriacou and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, particularly Union Island, which is distressing.
According to the Prime Minister Drew, St. Kitts and Nevis continues to stand with the regional brothers and sisters. He assured that the federation is completely committed to assist with recovery efforts.
PM Drew stated that, this is a time for them to band closer together as a Caribbean Community and show Caribbean unity. He added that the sister islands can get assured of the support and solidarity of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Reportedly, the Heads of Government ‘CARICOM’ will convene an emergency meeting tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. to discuss Hurricane Beryl.
Before stating on the updation of the natural calamity, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis – Dr. Terrance Drew said that he convened an emergency meeting at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to discuss a national collective response to Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) member states that are being affected by the Hurricane Beryl.
Drew further added to his statement that they also discussed St. Kitts and Nevis’ readiness for the predicted hyperactive hurricane season.
Previously, Dr. Drew expressed his emotions and confirmed that he left the White Sands prematurely to communicate with the co-prime ministers of the sister islands. He stated that they continue to see the effects of the climate crisis.
He also informed that Hurricane Beryl has formed, making it a rare early storm and the first hurricane for the 2024 season. He further stated that, it is predicted to become a major Category-4 Hurricane.
Drew further asked to extend the help and stated that let us keep the sister islands Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia and others in Beryl’s path in the prayers.
He updated then, that the Hurricane season is predicted to be active and may set records and urged to remain vigilant and prepared.
