St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew had a conversation with colleague Prime Minister – Andrew Holness of Jamaica amid Hurricane Beryl. As the natural calamity has now arrived in the neighbouring Caribbean Island. The natural calamity of Category-04. Beryl entered in Jamaica after passing through Grenada and Carriacou.
While extending his support to the Jamaican Prime Minister, PM Drew mentioned that he just spoke with his colleague Prime Minister – Andrew Holness of Jamaica.
Drew said that he extended his full support to Holness and the people of Jamaica on behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis further explained that the eye of Hurricane Beryl has moved further away from Jamaica, which is of course a more favourable situation as of now. “Let’s continue to pray for Jamaica,” urged PM Drew.
The Powerful Hurricane Beryl hit Jamaica with heavy winds and rain by damaging the buildings and felling trees on the Caribbean Island. The category-04 storm entered with winds of up to 130mph (215km/h) on Jamaica’s southern coast.
So far, the storm has killed at least seven people, as it sweeps across the Caribbean. It has now been downgraded to a category-03 storm, which can cause a landfall in Mexico later on Friday.
Earlier, St. Kitts and Nevis sent disaster relief supplies to the hurricane impacted neighbouring islands. It is the very first contribution which was sent via the Captain Hugh Mulzac coast guard vessel of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Notably, the initial contribution was made in the past days, recently, when the Hurricane Beryl hit the Caribbean region. The contribution comprised of 200 tarpaulins and several cases of bottled water.
Additionally, the aid supplies were also sent, for a contingent of five security officers which is being deployed to assist in the response and recovery efforts in the neighbouring islands.
