St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew and Minister of Agriculture Samal Duggins led a delegation from Southern University (SU) on a guided tour of Bayford’s Farm on July 16, 2024.
Reportedly, the partnership between Southern University and St. Kitts and Nevis was solidified, last year in December 2023 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Agriculture.
The tour was a great opportunity for the delegations to witness the intricacies of local farming. It presented them an opportunity to foster collaboration, with an objective of advancing the skill sets of the agricultural workforce.
As per the sources, the group also visited the Poultry Hatchery facility which is being constructed under the ‘St. Kitts and Nevis Layer Chicken Industry Sustainable Development Project’.
The officials were joined by Hadiya Claxton – Special Envoy for Investment, Development and International Business Relations, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture Miguel Flemming and Special Advisor to the Ministry of Agriculture – Dr. Ashton Stanley were also present.
Considering this, Prime Minister Drew visited Bayford’s Farm in St. Peter’s and was accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture – Samal Duggins along with the members of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and a delegation from Sothern University.
He said that he is from St. Peter’s and has spent more of his childhood days at Bayford’s. To PM Drew, it is a place that means a lot to the people and residents of St. Peter’s and it was his commitment towards his people to revive it. He expressed that he is pleased to say that they are well on their way.

A social media user Alphonso James remembered the old times and said, “I remember as a child in the 60’s and 70’s Bayfords was the main supplier of locally produce milk. Years ago folks used to picnic at Bayfords. Those were happy, happy days.”
