St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister and Minister of National Security – Dr. Terrance Drew met with the High Command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force to discuss regarding the national security issues.
PM Drew met with the official leaders to review and construct strategies to deal with the crime. He expressed that since the day he was elected as the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis have spared no resource to deal with very complex issues.
He said that together they are preparing for the next step, which is the national consultation on crime and violence based on the major principles of public health. It is for the first time, that the Surgeon General of the United States declared about the gun violence and considered it as a public health crisis in the country.
They demonstrated it as a hemispheric problem that goes beyond the borders. Prime Minister Drew further stated that as a united people they can beat the scourge which has been affecting them for decades.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Security – Glenroy Blanchette convened an emergency meeting with the High Command of the Police and Defence Force to address the pressing issue.
The meeting conducted at the Police Headquarters was pivotal in reviewing the homicides and formulating a robust strategy to curb the alarming trend.
Considering this, Prime Minister Drew expressed his grave concern over the surge in gun-related incidents, while emphasising the commitment of the government to ensure the safety and security of all the citizens.
Dr. Drew said that the protection of the citizens is paramount. They will make the necessary resources at the disposal available to the security forces to combat the threat and restore the peace into the communities.
At the meeting, the High Command of the Police and Defence Force presented a comprehensive analysis of the recent incidents, identifying patterns and potential causes.
The discussion was focused mainly on immediate and long-term measures that includes increased patrols strategic deployments, enhanced intelligence operations and community engagement initiatives.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew reaffirmed the dedication of the government, towards a swift and decisive response to gun violence. The meeting concluded with a commitment, considering the ongoing assessments and adjustments to the strategy, also to ensure its effectiveness.
Furthermore, the government and security forces will continue to work tirelessly to create a safer environment for all citizens. Highlighting the updates on the implemented measures and their outcomes will be communicated to the public in due course.
