St. Kitts and Nevis: The Ministry of Health in St. Kitts and the Overseas Engineering and Construction Company (OECC) will host a crucial Hospital Planning Session for the new JNF General Hospital to ensure the optimal healthcare facility which is delivered to the citizens of the twin island.
The series of discussions were brought together by the experts over the planning board to consolidate the ideas and opinions of key personnel regarding the new hospital, and focusing on certain areas or departments.
The departments include outpatient department, imaging department, emergency services department, the laboratory services department, renal care or dialysis services, oncology or haematology services, the radiation therapy services department and many more.
The hospital planning session was opened on Monday, July 22, 2024 by the Prime Minister and Minister of Health – Dr. Terrance Drew, who outlined clearly his strategic vision for the new climate-smart hospital and the overall improvement in the delivery of healthcare services in the Federation.
PM Drew witnessed the first consultative activity for the construction of the new climate smart hospital which was held at the JNF General Hospital, with the leadership and other staff, who were present there.
Dr. Drew said that he reinforced the need for a facility that could withstand the powerful hurricanes, that would be technologically smart, which would be accredited and would deliver to the people and others considering the high level of care.
He also mentioned that they have invested significantly in the present hospital and will continue to do so in future also. The week-long sessions aim to ensure the delivery of an optimal healthcare facility for the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis.
PM Drew stated that their goal is to create a state-of-the-art healthcare facility that not only meets the current needs of the citizens but also anticipates the future healthcare challenges. The JNF General Hospital will be a beacon of excellence and innovation in the Caribbean.
The prime minister added to his statement that the Ministry of Health and OECC are committed to engage with the numerous stakeholders to gather comprehensive insights and recommendations.
The inclusive approach he added, ensured that the new JNF General Hospital will be providing the facility that reflects the highest standards of patient care, operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.
However, the planning session will continue to go on throughout the week and will culminate in a detailed roadmap for the construction and operation of the new hospital. The Ministry of Health extended its gratitude to all the participants for their invaluable contributions considering the significant project.
