St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew met with the soccer teams from the constituency – 08, last evening. The teams DBSKN St. Peter’s FC and Azul Cayon Rockets, were playing in the final four of the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) Premier League.
Reportedly, both St. Peter’s and Cayon are exemplary teams. PM Drew said that he got the opportunity to speak to the teams, not just as MP or Prime Minister but as the one who has previously served as past president and team doctor, as in the case of St. Peter’s and team doctor in the case of Cayon.
Prime Minister Drew also said that he made a monetary contribution to both the teams to aid in their preparation for the competition. He added to his statement that he wished the teams well and encouraged them to be disciplined, respectful and to be examples to the youths.
The SKNFA Premier League, is mainly known for its sponsorship reasons as the SKNFA National Bank Premier League (previously known as SKNFA Digicel Super League), which is St. Kitts top division, was created in 1980 and was organsied by the SKNFA.
Currently, the league has 10 participants in total and the season lasts from September to May. At the Regular Stage, each club plays twice (home and away) and the top four teams qualify to Super Four stage.
Notably, the qualified teams play with each other once and then the top two teams from Super Four play a 3-legged Championship Play-off to determine the season champion. The lowest placed team in Regular Stage is relegated to St. Kitts and Nevis Division-01 from which another one is promoted.
Following his visit, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew was appreciated by the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis. A social media user Livingstone Buchanan commented, “Good Morning Prime Minister! Let the glow of Jah blessings shine all over you. Sir; policy’s over, politics is where the fork in the road meet so to speak. Have fun cheering for both teams, however, I wish for the great State of St. Peter’s be the winner after all is said and done. Play your heart out St. Peter’s.”
Another person named Bernard Wattley said, “Ophelia McSheene all he needs is a team that stands with him, that supports him, that has his back.”
