St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew marked the commencement of the highly anticipated Music Summer Camp 2024 with the launch of ‘Sound Your Future’. The theme of the week-long camp is based on the theme ‘Building Our Own Unique Sound to Create a Future We Love to Hear’.
The Summer Camp is designed, keeping in mind the idea of nurturing and developing the musical talents of participants by providing a platform for learning, growth and creativity.
‘Sound Your Future’ Music Summer Camp is a Multifaceted event that aims to focus on the holistic development of each participant. With the aim of nurturing musical talent by providing opportunities for participants, the camp also desires to refine and enhance their skills.
The camp will also serve as a platform for discovering and fostering new talent. The Practical performance skills will be a key focus, that will enable the participants to gain the confidence that is needed to perform with assurance.
Other than music, the camp will also portray the importance of building the lasting friendships among the participants and will encourage the development of healthy habits that will contribute to their overall well-being.
Furthermore, the camp will expose the participants to a variety of musical styles, broadening their creative horizons.
PM Drew launched the Music Summer Camp in collaboration with the National Calypso Monarch Queen Independent, that envisions the initiative as a means to not only improve the music skills but also to develop the well-rounded individuals who can contribute positively towards the society.
The initiative is considered to be crucial, as the community seeks sustainable solutions to the issues of crime and violence.
Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office – Naeemah Hazelle, marked the importance of creating environment and surrounding that offer alternatives to negative influences.
She highlighted that the camp provides a safe space for the young people to engage in constructive activities, by preventing them from falling into high-risk situations.
Hazelle stressed upon the future opportunities that the Creative Arts Centre, which is currently under construction, will offer the young creatives. It also ensures that they have the spaces needed to showcase their talents and contribute to the cultural heritage of the nation.
The camp has received support from a diverse group of facilitators, including Jelani Shaw from Trinidad; Cory Tyson and Venelle Powell from Nevis; MJ Byron, Loughlin Tatem, Creighton Pension and Larry Vaughan from St. Kitts.
These experts will guide the participants in maintaining disciplines such as writing, performance, pan, production, music engineering and business/marketing, also providing them the invaluable knowledge and skills.
The initiative is a testament to the power of community involvement and the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing societal challenges. As the participants embark on this exciting journey, they will enhance their musical abilities and will also contribute to the safety and vibrancy of their communities.
