St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew renamed the Keys Community Center and rededicated it as the Louise Phillips-Jones Multi-Purpose Center. By renaming the community center, he paid homage to the life and service of a true community leader.
PM Drew along with other ministers and Keys Community gathered to acknowledge the contributions and honor the life of Louise Phillips-Jones by renaming it.
Prime Minister Drew noted that it is happening for the first time in St. Kitts where a community leader was renamed in honour of a worthy community member.
However, the newly renamed Louise Phillips Jones Multi-Purpose Center will serve as a hub for after-school programs, community gatherings, sports and learning opportunities.
Prime Minister Drew expressed his hope that the center will continue to be a ‘living, breathing part of the Keys community.’
Late Louise Phillips-Jones was a dedicated teacher, mentor, supervisor and leader who touched the lives of countless families. Her legacy is woven into the very fabric of the community.
She was a dedicated teacher when the community center functioned as a primary school for many years and helped to mold the minds of the children of Keys village.
Reportedly, the Louise Phillips-Jones Multi-Purpose Center was recently renovated and outfitted with new windows, doors, furniture and fencing.
PM Drew extended his gratitude to Mr. Dominic Stevens for bringing the project to life and to everyone who dedicated their time and efforts to the rehabilitation of the new Multi-Purpose Center. He mentioned that this was indeed a community-led project which shows the spirit of Keys.
As per the sources, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew attended the ceremony as Parliamentary Representative along with his wife Diani Jimesha Prince-Drew. They were conjoined by other governmental officials, family members of Mrs. Phillips-Jones and residents of the Keys community for the joyous occasion.
While sharing his remarks PM Dr. Drew emphasized the deep-rooted influence of Jones. He noted her role in shaping the lives of generations of Keys residents. He said that the Center is a testament to the enduring strength and resilience of the Keys community. They acknowledge the contributions and honor the life of a true champion from the Keys community.
As per the remarks by PM Drew, the revitalization of the Keys Community Center, had fallen into disrepair over the years, and was an inspiring community-led project. He highlighted that from the paintings to the construction, the windows to the fencing and almost 100% of the work has been led by the people of Keys.
Drew acknowledged the partnership between the community, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Affairs. He praised the initiative as a model of community spirit and collaboration and urged other communities across St. Kitts and Nevis to follow the example by Keys Village.
