St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew and the Federation extended best wishes while bidding farewell to the outgoing US Ambassador to Barbados, The Eastern Caribbean and the OECS – Roger F. Nyhus on Friday, Jan 17, 2025. To celebrate the outgoing Ambassador the officials organised a cocktail reception at the Government House.
Reportedly, the reception was attended by the Governor General Dame Marcella Liburd, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew and PM’s wife Diani Jimesha Prince-Drew, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Denzil Douglas and several other dignitaries welcomed senior government officials and staff from the US Embassy in Bridgetown.
As per the sources, in honour of the diplomat, the officials of St. Kitts and Nevis organized a cake cutting ceremony and raised a toast to congratulate Nyhus for his journey ahead.
Prime Minister Drew praised the legacy of Ambassador Nyhus and acknowledged his efforts, his hardwork and dedication to serve the nation.
At his farewell ceremony, Roger F. Nyhus also explained his journey that has been incredible throughout these years. While expressing himself on social media, Roger F. Nyhus said that it has been an incredible honor to serve as President Biden’s US Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.
He said, “I am deeply grateful for the warmth and friendship of the people and government.” He added that these are the considerable successes that they have achieved together over the past years.
Adding further to his statement, Roger F. Nyhus stated that as he bid farewell, he was confident that the strong partnership between the United States and ‘The Magnificent Seven’ Caribbean Nations. Nyhus expressed that he was privileged to serve and will continue to strengthen and grow, alongside the shared commitment to climate resilience, regional security and economic prosperity for all.
Ambassador Roger F. Nyhus is an accomplished and civic leader and one of the only handful of Native American Ambassadors in US history.
Nyhus was appointed as Ambassador by US President Joe Biden in Sept 2022 and was confirmed by the US Senate in Nov 2023. His top three priorities as an ambassador were addressing climate change, enhancing regional security and promoting economic prosperity.
He brought an entrepreneurial, private sector perspective to his role. Earlier, he served as a founder and CEO of Nyhus Communications which was operational for nearly 30 years. It was a Seattle based strategic communications, advocacy and marketing consultancy company.
Considering this role, Ambassador Roger Nyhus served as an adviser to business and government leaders around the world, including CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. Nyhus also promoted American companies in sectors relevant to the Eastern Caribbean, including sustainability and energy.
