St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew as a Minister of Health briefed the special gathering for emergency medicine professionals at JNF general Hospital on Monday, Jan 27, 2025. The training session was arranged by the Ministry of Health that continuously seeks to improve the healthcare standards in twin-island nation.
Reportedly, it was a crucial training session that was facilitated by a team of US board-certified emergency medicine physicians and was led by Dr. Kaylah Maloney.
PM Drew extended his gratitude and thanked Dr. Maloney during a brief ceremony held in the morning, for answering the call of the Government for professionals in the Diaspora to help in the development of the Federation.
The authorities noted, the first phase of training included echocardiograms, emergency lung ultrasounds and advanced cardiac life support, in addition to CME sessions on common emergency conditions.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew during his visit also took a brief tour of the room that now covers the new 128 slice computed tomography (CT) scan machine. The CT scan installed is equipped with an injector that can diagnose cardiac ailments and is one of only four in the entire Caribbean region.
Notably, training for hospital staff in St. Kitts and Nevis was on the proper use and maintenance of the new equipment is expected to commence officially this week.
Furthermore, Dr. Drew noted that this advanced machinery will significantly bolster the diagnostic capabilities of the hospital and thereby will improve the quality of healthcare available to all citizens.
Considering this initiative, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew shared the glimpses from the instalment of the new equipment at the JNF General Hospital and said that he would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Maloney, who is a national ER specialist doctor in the USA.
Dr. Drew stated that Maloney has brought a team of her colleagues to provide an emergency training room to the A&E Doctors, after months of planning. However, the administrative professionals are also a part of the team and provide vital support on the administrative side.
