St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew and Foreign Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas met with the stakeholders at NEMA to oversee the shipment of essential supplies to the students from St. Kitts and Nevis who are currently studying in Cuba on Tuesday, May 20, 2025
Reportedly, the supplies majorly included care packages of water, personal hygiene products, dry food, medical supplies, batteries and other supplies that are needed to make the students comfortable.
PM Drew marked this as a significant initiative, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that reflects the continuous commitment of the government for well-being of its citizens abroad, while enduring partnership between St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of Cuba.
St. Kitts and Nevis has facilitated the shipment of a 20-foot container loaded with products to the Republic of Cuba from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) headquarters to benefit the nationals who are pursuing their study in Cuba.
Considering this, Prime Minister Drew stated that as a Cuban-trained doctor himself, he was already aware of the challenges and the courage, it takes to pursue studies far from home. This gesture is a kind way of saying that the government sees them and supports them. The St. Kitts and Nevis government is with the students at every step of their way.
PM Drew stated that he is a Cuban graduate and therefore in addition to really helping the citizens and the fellow alumni of the Cuban association, they understand that there can be challenges that can occur from time to time in Cuba.
Moreover, they want to ensure that the students are taken care of, and the efforts are really made to help them while pursuing their studies in Cuba to return to St. Kitts and Nevis, contributing towards the national development.
Prime Minister Drew extended his sincere appreciation to the Government and people of Cuba for their unwavering commitment to education and regional solidarity. He extended his gratitude to Cuba for its continued contribution, under challenging circumstances, to the national development through education.
Dr. Drew emphasized that they have done their part and will do their part to make sure that this program continues to be a strong program to strengthen the Caribbean upliftment and unity between the people and advancement of the country.
Notably, this latest act of solidarity by the government reaffirms its pledge to protect and support its citizens, wherever they may be and to strengthen the bonds of Caribbean friendship and cooperation.
