St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew officially inaugurated the Global Sustainable Island Summit 2025 on May 27, 2025, welcoming global delegates to the St. Kitts and Nevis.
Expressing himself, PM Drew gratefully accepted the honour to officially declare the Global Sustainable Island Summit 2025 open right in the heart of the Caribbean, in the beloved Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
He marked that as the island nations, they are no longer content to be seen as the periphery, they are the pulse of global sustainability, the frontlines of both the challenges and the solutions.
According to PM Drew, hosting this summit for St. Kitts and Nevis federation is not just a privilege, it is a responsibility that they are embracing with purpose and pride. He welcomed every delegate, every voice and every idea to the shores.
Prime Minister Drew also highlighted that on the sidelines of the Global Sustainable Island Summit 2025, he was pleased to meet with the CEO of Island Innovation – James Ellsmoor, where they discussed the tremendous potential of the geothermal energy project, not just for St. Kitts and Nevis but for the wider region.
They agreed that the strong political will is backed by real collaboration and can unlock sustainable change for island communities. Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis also had the pleasure to reconnect with the President of the University of St. Martin – Dr. Antonio Carmona Baez, for following up to the earlier discussions in Philipsburg.
Here, they explored the opportunities for deeper collaboration between USM and CFBC, especially in the areas of training, research and cultural exchange. The conversations reminded PM Drew that sustainability is not only about the environment and economy, but also about people, education and the bonds they are building across the borders.
Launching the Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA)
Dr. Terrance Drew at the GSIS 2025 also raised his voice for the power of political will and how leadership must rise to meet this moment of climate urgency. He also had the honour of officially launching the Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA), the national blueprint to build a stronger, fairer, climate-resilient Federation by 2040.
SISA is a promise to deliver clean energy, affordable food along with smarter homes, better healthcare, stronger industries, and more opportunities for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. He further emphasized that this is their time to lead, so lets build it together.
