Syria: People were killed last night as a result of a military escalation in northern Syria, including nine civilians who were killed in artillery shelling by the regime forces, and four girls were killed in a Turkish strike, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The border area with Turkey has been witnessing tension for days, against the backdrop of clashes between the Syrian Democratic Forces, led by Kurdish fighters, and the Turkish forces and the Syrian factions loyal to them.
The escalation expanded to include regime forces deployed at border points.
“The artillery shelling of the regime forces killed nine civilians, including children, and wounded 30 others in a popular market” in the city of al-Bab, which is under the control of pro-Ankara factions in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo, said the director of the Syrian Observatory, Rami Abdel Rahman.
SDF spokesman Farhad Shami announced in a tweet that his forces had “nothing to do” with the strike.
The Kurdish Autonomous Administration announced today that a Turkish bombardment targeted a “special education centre for girls” in the village of Shamuka in the countryside of Hasaka (northeast), killing four “children and wounding 11 others.” The observatory confirmed the killing of “four girls” in the bombing at night, noting that the centre aims to rehabilitate minors who wish to bear arms.
