Egypt: The Ministry of Environment of Egypt, in association with the Arab Academy of Science and Technology, has recently introduced a framework and blueprint to implement the new waste management system effectively.
As per the recent stats from the Environment Ministry, a series of training programs has been implemented to train and qualify cadres and workers of the waste management system at the governorate level to ensure better system functioning.
Furthermore, the update came under the patronage of Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad, who focuses on raising the standards of the employees and workers of the waste management system.
On her part, Minister Yasmin Fouad stated that the department is working towards better training workers to contribute to their implementation of waste management operations in the best way possible.
Minister Fouad further added that the environment ministry ensures that the initiative works with expected effectiveness and sustainability.
The Arab Academy of Science and Technology, in cooperation with the Environment Ministry, has conveyed that the system will target the governorate level, starting with the regions of Giza and Cairo.
Additionally, the workers of the regional branches in the governorates of Cairo and Giza are related to two departments, including,
– Environmental Affairs Agency in Greater Cairo
– Hygiene Authority and the Environment Offices
Moreover, environment minister Fouad announced that the training program would last for six (6) months, functioning in different provinces and territories.
The programme will also include field visits to some selected infrastructures and plants where the plan has already been implemented and explained.
Additionally, Yasmin Fouad confirmed that all the planning and organizational operations, along with the oversight role, come within the guidance of the ministry of environment’s waste management system.
The ministry plays a vital role in the smooth conduct of the management system by providing a supportive climate and suitable environment to utilize the new system’s full potential efficiently.
The support by the environment ministry includes training and capacity building Lutaniya, which expands its limits to target a bigger picture.
“The training program is designed to enhance and increase the effectiveness of the capacity and awareness of the workers involved in the programme, based on the requirements of united management of legislation and evaluation”. Said Fouad.
In addition, the management of various alternatives for collection, transport, recycling and safe disposal of waste, the Waste Management Law (No. 202 of 2020), will be presented, explaining the institutional, technical and financial regulations and mechanisms of Censorship, incentives and penalties imposed on it.
Following the end, the training program included roles and responsibilities of all administrative authorities specialized in implementing the Waste Management Act No. 202 of 2020.

The ministry also works to improve the methods of final waste disposal scientifically and practically.
It reduces the harmful effects of waste on the environment.
