Egypt: The Ministry of Environment has recently shared an update regarding the participation of the Waste Management Agency in a workshop on Product Extended Responsibility organized by the Sustainable Recycling Industries Project (SRI) in Zurich, Switzerland, under the leadership of Minister Yasmin Fouad.
As per the recent information, The Waste Management Agency is participating in the event over the course of three days. In addition, Yasmin Fouad, the Minister of Environment, stated that through the Waste Management Regulator, they participated in a workshop organized by the Sustainable Recycling Industries Project (SRI) on Extended Product Liability over the course of three days in Zurich, Switzerland.
“The workshop aims to achieve several objectives, most importantly to provide participants with theoretical and practical experiences on the concept of Product Extended Liability, to introduce and raise awareness of the importance of applying the concept of Product Expected Extended Liability on electronic and electrical waste,” Minister Yasmin Fouad explained.
She further added to form a unified vision among participants on how to apply and implement the Extended Liability System; participants are encouraged and motivated to face challenges and strive to implement the system successfully.
During the workshop, the program includes several lectures and interactive discussions to identify the effective progress in the implementation of a successful system of the concept of Extended Product Responsibility, obstacles and challenges overcome during the application stages, and experiences and several successful experiences in this field were presented as applied in (EU/ Switzerland / India).
Furthermore, the participants and experts interacted with each other, during which many points were discussed, including laws and supporting legislation, a plan to monitor and evaluate the project stages, and reports noted.
“The participants also presented and discussed a proposal to apply the concept of extended product liability in Egypt, presentation of supporting parties and participation in implementation, distribution of roles and responsibilities to each party, and related legislation,” Minister Fouad added.
In the end, the workshop program also includes several field visits to several factories working in the field of e-waste recycling and learning about the technology applied in this field, and learning about the ground-of-the-ground how to implement the extended product liability system and the importance of practical benefit to using these successful experiments in Egypt in light of Waste Law No. 2076 which includes Article 370.
