Egypt: The Department of Treasures, burials and antiquities of the Arab world has recently updated that an antique collector acquired a terrible painting inside a very beautiful frame, and when the painting was separated from the frame, he found a rare copy of the “Document of Independence” behind the painting, and later sold it for $2.4 million.
The update was shared on the official social media account of the burials and antiquities department, where the officials stated, “An antique collector acquired a gruesome painting inside a very beautiful frame, and after separating the painting from the frame, a surprise happened!”.
The discovery of the document was explained by the authorities, who stated that the “Document of Independence” is one of the most important documents in the history of the United States of America, issued on July 4, 1776.
In addition, “It was a result of the three-year-old war waged by thirteen American colonies against the British Empire after the deterioration of political and diplomatic relations between them, which influenced the founding of the United States”, said examination authorities.
Furthermore, around two-hundred copies of this document were released then. Still, only about twenty-six remain these days, and in 1989 an antique collector accidentally purchased one of these copies from a walking market for only four dollars.
On the first of this blessed day for him, this antique collector headed to the Pennsylvania walking market where he admired an engraved and gold-painted frame, where he bought it and took it home. Since he didn’t like the painting inside the frame, he decided to get rid of it, and while taking the painting from the frame, he found A copy of the ‘Declaration of Independence document behind the board.
However, this antique collector did not know the value of what he found back then, he just kept the document out of curiosity, and years later, when he showed it to a friend of his who was another historical collector, he became more excited about what it was and begged his friend the antique collector to do some research about it.
In the end, his friend contacted” Sotheby’s” (the world’s largest antique trading company via open auctions) and was very surprised when he found out the true value of the document, and” Sotheby’s” auctioned the document, which eventually sold for $2.42 million.
