Tibet: Tibet has called for an independent fact-finding mission from the UN (United Nations) while celebrating the anniversary of Tibet’s Declaration of Independence in its 110th edition.
Tibet requested before the UN to hold China accountable for the exploitation of the people and culture of Tibet, reported Tibet Rights Collective (TRC).
The TRC reports claimed, in the declaration of Tibet’s independence on February 13, 1913, when the 13th Dalai Lama acclaimed that the nation had been acting as an independent entity for more than 1000 years. In addition, during this period, the mark of China’s domination ended over Tibet under the dictatorship of the Qing (Manchu) dynasty.
However, the self-rule period of rule and independence ended soon for Tibet as China unlawfully occupied Tibetan land in 1949, said reports.
Furthermore, The United Nations has largely failed as an institution to hold China accountable for Tibet’s current crisis, refereeing to the visit of the last human rights commissioner in 1985, 24 years ago, according to the report published by the Delhi-based research institute TRC.
Moreover, the TRC report has also confirmed that during such time, no meaningful investigations were conducted towards the incidents which are currently happening in Tibet regarding the mistreatment of Tibetan people. “The people of Tibet have been facing detentions, prison deaths, self-immolation and enforced abductions,” reported TRC.
The UN mission for fact-finding and investigations must consider the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) dangerous policies regarding the environment in Tibet and further request questions from the CCP about the current location of the Panchen Lama of Tibet, who was kidnapped in 1995.
The TRC report also highlighted that the Chinese Communist Party has been focusing aggressively on monitoring and controlling the procedures of narratives around the rebirth of the 14th Dalai Lama and Sinicizing Tibetan religion and culture along with language and education.
Around a million children from the Tibetan minority were being exploited by the policies of the Chinese government, particularly focused on assimilating Tibetans culturally and religiously through the schooling system, noted reports.
Notably, the TRC report called upon the authorities in power to address the issues and set up an investigation into the human rights situation in Tibet. “It is the right time that the UN conducts a fact-finding mission to Tibet in an independent form; as Tibet celebrates its 100th anniversary of Independence Day, let’s urge the UN to stay true to its promises and commitments towards Human Rights.” As published in TRC.
