Egypt: The Minister of Environment, Yasmin Fouad, witnessed the establishment of the foundation stone for the Cooperative Fishing Center project in Tor city in southern Sinai within the framework of the protocol for organizing fishing activities in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Suez and Aqaba.
On her part, Environment Minister confirms that the conservation of natural resources requires the organization of fishing in the Red Sea.
She added, “The framework of the Cooperation Protocol to activate mechanisms for providing sustainable environmental projects to preserve fishery wealth and the development of traditional fishing units, equipment and equipment during the fishing periods in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Suez and Aqaba.”
She witnessed the event in the presence of Mr Al-Qasir, the Minister of Agriculture, Land Reclamation, Major General Khaled Fouda, South Sinai Governor, Dr Ali Abu Sunnah, Executive Chairman of the Environment Affairs Agency, Mrs Ghada Shalabi, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Archaeology for Tourism Affairs, and several leaders in relevant ministries.
Minister Yasmin Fouad further confirmed that the project is a direct development to raise the livelihoods of fishermen and improve their social and professional status. She cited that it will aim to deliver the profession scientifically, ensure the sustainability of resources, and create new job opportunities, along with organizing the procedures of the fishing profession, which is a major career of the local community in that region.
“To manufacture a service market for the maintenance of fishing equipment and provision Its tools are affordable, as well as ensuring a fair price for fish marketing as reflected on fishermen,” said Fouad. Furthermore, the Center is implemented with joint funding from the Ministry of the Environment, South Sinai Province, and the Ministries of Agriculture, Tourism and Oil.
The Minister of the Environment clarified that the cooperative fishing centre consists of a collection of fish marketing stores equipped with refrigerators for keeping fish and refrigerated transport vehicles, a shop for selling equipment and supplies and fishing boats.
Moreover, a workshop for repairing boat engines, stores for selling food for fishing boats and fishermen’s families, and an ice factory will be established or developed factories. The list is in accordance with the needs of the hunters.
“The South Sinai Governorate has allocated the necessary land area to establish the project in Tor City. The South Sinaa Housing Directorate was also contracted for implementation, and all the procedures from the ploughing and anchorage operations have been taken to implement the project.” Confirmed Minister Yasmin Fouad.
