Egypt: The Minister of Environment of Egypt, Yasmin Fouad, has recently organized an inaugural workshop under the project “Drafting and developing the process of National Adaptation Plans in Egypt (NAP)”.
According to the reports, the Executive Chairman of the Shoun Environment, Abu Sunnah, has extended his remarks and stated, “The project aims to strengthen national, human and institutional capacities to adapt to climate change, determine priorities and integrate them in budgeting and planning.”
In addition, the project was launched under the guidance of Environment Minister Fouad with the support of international partnerships to prepare national climate change adaptation plans. The Ministry organized the inaugural workshop of the project “Drafting and developing the National Adaptation Plans Process in Egypt” (NAP).
The project is aimed to strengthen national capacities in the climate change sector in the presence of Dr Ali Abu Sunnah, the Executive Chairman of the Shoun Environment and Dr Mohamed Bayoumi, Assistant Resident Actor for the United Nations Development Program, Ahmed Abdul Hamid, Project Manager, and a number of representatives of ministers and stakeholders, and a life of experts and media persons said reports.
Furthermore, Dr Ali Abu Sunnah, CEO of the Environmental Affairs Agency, expressed his happiness at the inaugural workshop of the project “Drafting and Development of the National Adaptation Plans Process in Egypt” (NAP).
He also emphasized that the project is the first stop in the project’s implementation process, which seeks to strengthen human and institutional capacities to formulate and implement the National Adaptive Plan as well as assess climate risks, Identify priority areas for adjustment, and integrate these priorities in budgeting and planning.
In his remarks, Abu Sunnah also pointed out that the trend of climate change is one of the concerns of everyone, especially in developing countries, although the emissions produced from Egypt are estimated at about 0.6% of the total world emissions.
Moreover, “It is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to the potential effects of climate change, which may lead to a number of Impacts on the coastal, agriculture, water, health, population and infrastructure sectors, will add a new challenge to Egypt’s set of challenges as it pursues and vision to achieve the SDGs by 2030,” reported updates.
The Executive Chairman of the Environment Affairs Machine explained that the preparation of climate strategies and plans is one of the steps towards prioritizing work in different sectors, adding that due to the inclusiveness of this project.
Additionally, he has started working on the proposal in coordination with experts from different sectors since 2017 in order to discuss relevant experts on topics Adapting to climate change and how to benefit from the strategy of adaptation to climate change and risks released by the Cabinet Information Center in 2011.
