Egypt: The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt has recently shared an update regarding a temporary exhibition organized at the Coptic Museum on the occasion of the 113th anniversary since its opening under the theme of “The legacy of the ancestors. Coptic museum dedicated sets.”
According to the updates, on his part, Professor Moumen Othman, head of the museum sector at the Supreme Council of Archaeology, explained that every year the museum strives to commemorate its opening by highlighting a unique collection of his collections, believing in his message and the social role in defining different categories of society in the museum’s history and Egyptian identity.
Furthermore, Professor Jihan Atef, the general director of the Coptic Museum, extended her remarks and said that the exhibition contains three unique artefacts from his collections that tell the history of Egyptian Coptic art in its different stages, which are a gifted group of public figures, kings, foreigners and other Egyptians, Christians and Muslims.
The reports also stated that the most prominent exhibitions included the striped book “The Answer”, the seven day and night prayers in Arabic dating back to the year 1963 AD, and the manuscript book “Flower Creations in the Events of the Periods” dating to the year 1441 AH along with an empty golden-plated metal crown with two carnishes hanging a cross.
The other items included a basket of wicker-shaped wicker, a cup is a dedication and an Abyssian cross of copper, an icon depicting Saint Mar of Qatar, and a collection of stone pieces, including four pieces of it, are corniches with motifs for two shells, inside which a cross, a part of an Acantis plant.
Furthermore, a piece on which the inscription of the story of Abraham and the slaughter of his son, and a piece of a person inside Naus, as well as two gold coins Representing the Emperor Valantian.
Moreover, Professor Jihan Atef also added that the exhibition also features a collection of photos and papers from the museum’s archive department, citing the anniversary of its opening, and the exhibition is set to last for a month.
On the margin of the ceremony, the museum organized a number of events and activities, where an art exhibition was opened in cooperation with the Coptic Heritage Lovers Association titled “Art of Icon”, featuring a collection of photographs by the artists of the Coptic Heritage Association.
The collection represented the Coptic Heritage Society choral presentation and some Coptic anthems and national songs, as well as organizing A lecture titled “Thick Marcus, History Maker”, which was given by a number of museum specialists, art and education workshops for people with special needs.
Along with a workshop with students of the Future School of the Marge Education Department, which is a paper-making to make a half-card of the cone shape and the other side drawing and colouring for one of the temporary archaeological exhibitions.
Notably, the ceremony was attended by Mrs Heba Hamdi, Al-Mahraf, the Central Administration of the Major Museums in the Museum Sector, Major General Engineer Ayman Al-Saeed, the Head of the Ancient Egypt Neighbourhood, Mrs Jihan Atef, the General Manager of the Coptic Museum, and Dr Ashraf Najah, the Director of the Scientific Research Center in the Project Sector of the Ministry of Tourism and Archaeology.
The other officials included Mr Sami Metri, Chairman of the Board of the Heritage Lovers Association of the Coptic, Mrs Renee Yaqoub – General Secretary of the Association, and Dr Shaza Asmai, Professor of Coptic Studies at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, Helwan University, and a member of the Association, Dr Hind Salah, Professor of the Coptic Language, Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University.
