Dubai, UAE – A Dubai court has ordered the auction of medical equipment at a local healthcare facility to settle outstanding debts owed to creditors and unpaid staff, including doctors and nurses.
The auction, scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, 2025, will be conducted by Emirates Auction at its Ras Al Khor location at 5 pm, according to court documents. Buyers can also participate online via the auction company’s website.
The court-mandated seizure of assets follows an inspection of the facility in March 2024 by a court-appointed executor. The inspection led to a detailed listing of all medical equipment and furniture at the site, which has now been confiscated.
Among the items to be auctioned are X-ray machines, automated analysers, bronchoscopy equipment, and a catheterisation cardiac system, with a combined value of Dh1.7 million.
In total, the seized assets are estimated to be worth over Dh22 million and include patient beds, infusion pumps, blood pressure monitors, and other medical devices.
This auction is a result of the healthcare facility’s failure to meet financial obligations to both creditors and staff.
According to reports, many employees had gone months without receiving their salaries before the court intervened and authorized the confiscation of assets to recover the unpaid dues.
The decision has sparked mixed reactions among former employees. “For too long, we were left without answers,” said one former physician. “This decision provides some closure, even if it comes at the cost of a workplace we once believed in.”
A former nurse, who requested anonymity, expressed a bittersweet sentiment: “It’s hard to see the place we worked in being dismantled, but at least we may finally receive the compensation we’ve been waiting for.”
The emotional toll on the staff has been significant, with many voicing frustrations over the delay in payment and the uncertainty surrounding their professional futures.
Dubai Courts have stipulated that those wishing to object to the auction must submit their objections, along with supporting documents, at least three days before the scheduled auction date.
The court’s decision to seize assets was made after the healthcare facility failed to resolve its mounting financial issues, which included outstanding payments to employees, suppliers, and creditors.
