Dubai: The administration of Saudi Arabia has announced an initiative to extend the Quba mosque, which is located in Medina. The Mosque’s expansion will be considered the largest expansion in the history of the Mosque since its establishment, according to local media.
The Quba Mosque is a mosque in Medina, Saudi Arabia, on the outskirts of the city. Initially, the Mosque was built 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) off Medina in the town of Quba before Medina expanded to include this town.
And it is the first Mosque which is built by the Prophet Mohammed and is now 5,035 square meters in size.
After emigrating from Makkah, the Prophet and Abu Bakr first stayed in Madinah at Quba.
The project, named after King Salman, aims to increase the Mosque’s capacity to 66,000 worshipers and expand its overall space to 50,000 square metres, which is ten times bigger than its existing size.
The plan of expansion was launched by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during his regional tour o Medina.
According to Prince Mohammed bin Salman that the project aligns with the aims and objectives of the Kingdom Vision 2030, within a dedicated programme to better serve the pilgrims and enhance their quality of life.
In expansion to an addition of the Mosque, 57 historical sites, including wells, farms, and “prophetic paths”, will be created and revived, according to the SPA report.
