Roseau, Dominica: The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, has announced that the retail prices of petroleum products have declined in the country, and revised prices have been declared during the recent press conference held on Tuesday.
As per the updates, on January 16, 2023, new prices of the petroleum products came into immediate effect, which read as follows,
– $14.87 will be charged per gallon of Gasoline
– The high Sulphur diesel per gallon will cost $15.42 and per drop of $1.30
– The price of Kerosene has been revised to $13.84 per gallon with a drop of $1.20
– $16.32 per gallon will be charged per gallon with a drop of $1.65
In addition, PM Roosevelt Skerrit has also addressed that the drop in the prices is notable; there is also a significant drop noted in LPG between 20 and 65 cents from the 20 pounds cylinder to the hundred pounds.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister also pointed out the condition of shortage of petroleum products in the nation, which is considered an unfortunate scenario to deal with due to the rush to pumps, part of which had to do with the c-swell. The scenario interrupted the docking of the vessel in Dominica as PDV Carib.
Additionally, a purchase order for a substantial amount of petroleum products was placed. Still, the vessel could not dock for an outstretch period, which interrupted the schedule of the receipt of petroleum products.
Moreover, PM Roosevelt Skerrit shed light on the recent agreement between the government of Venezuela, where he noted that Dominica had signed the contract after the establishment by the Venezuela president, blessed memory Chavez.
The agreement holds a mutual understanding to supply Energy Security resources to assist Dominica in further ensuring continuous access to supplies.
In his notes, PM Skerrit added that the government took a deliberate decision while agreeing that the imports of Venezuela’s Diesel and Liquefied Petroleum gas, known as LPG, left the imports of Gasoline to the other private existing bodies.
During the press conference, it was reported that the decision had been made to assist and help the fisherman community of Dominica as they struggle to get the resources easily from Soufriere and have to travel a long way to get access to such gasses.
“Several gas stations will be provided nearest to the fisherman communities to help them save time and effort,” said PM Skerrit.
He further explained the fisherman’s struggle as they have to travel to Castle Bruce and from there to Marigot to get the Gasoline which is considered a hectic, time-consuming task.
In the end, PM Skerrit concluded that Venezuela had supplied us with more than 6 000 barrels of Gasoline, and as the main problem was the shortage of Gasoline,
so the government decided from the treasure Dominica to purchase 10 000 barrels of Gasoline from the original supplier that 10 000 vessels landed yesterday in Dominica.
