St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew and Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley conducted a walkthrough at the Cayon High School on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. They visited the place, where the minor remedial works continuously on the facility to ensure that it is in a state of readiness for the commencement of the 2024-25 academic year from Monday, September 02, 2024.
Reportedly, the minor works that are currently taking place at the school includes the installation of doors and windows, also including painting of certain areas to remove graffiti.
During the visit, it was noted that new railings were also installed, the bathroom facilities were modernised and the majority of the school was outfitted with the new furniture.
As per the officials, the renovation work will continue at the school in the coming weeks.
Considering this, PM Drew also shared a post on his official social media platform and unveiled the images from his visit.
Prime Minister Drew said that, today he visited the Cayon High School with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education – Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, to see the first-hand tremendous work that is being done to get the school ready for the school year.
Drew said that they should have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to replace the doors, windows, railings and to rid the school of mold.
He added that they have also bought a significant amount of new furniture for both the teachers and students. He mentioned that this is the largest sum that he invested at any one time at the Cayon High School in over a decade and we will continue to invest.
Cayon High School is located in St. Mary’s Cayon, St. Kitts. Last year, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew visited the school on Teacher’s Day, to discuss regarding the renovation work of the school to transform the education landscape.
General improvement of the classrooms was listed on priority. Principal Wattley then said that they will make sure that they have a conducive learning environment and Dr. Drew toured the school with the project manager, as they were really feeling the vibes that were going to be getting some much-needed renovation at the Cayon High School.
Principal also said that They really want to thank him for taking some time out of his busy schedule to come on the grounds and make practical notes as to the way forward.
PM Drew then stated that by ensuring a safe and child-friendly learning environment at public schools is a priority for the government and the issues at Cayon will be addressed.
Prime Minister also stated that it has been a longstanding issue that really needs to be resolved and they have already made a Cabinet submission, to which they agreed that they will buy new furniture which will be ordered almost immediately to make sure that the schools meet up to the standards.
