Iran’s Parliament has temporarily shut their all sessions because of a surge of COVID-19 among MPs as the Omicron cases are increasing in the country at an explosive rate.
On January 31, Monday, senior lawmaker “Nezam Mousavi” declared that at least 47 members in the 290 member parliament have tested positive in their COVID-19 reports, which led to cancel the all public sessions on Tuesday, February 1, and Wednesday 2.
Parliamentary commissions also suspended all sessions of this week as per the national anti-coronavirus task force guidelines. However, the Iranian Parliament was also suspended for two weeks in April last year during the outbreak of MPs.
During the first wave of COVID-19, many lawmakers lost their lives after getting COVID-19 positive.
Even ten parliamentary delegates are now hospitalized after coming in contact with the virus; MP “Alireza Salimi” announced it on January 30.
According to one lawmaker of Parliament, “Mojtaba Yousefi”, dozens of MPs have tested positive. He added that many uncountable parliament staff are also infected, which takes the number on the top.
As per MP “Jalal Rashidi” tweeted on Sunday, he is “shocked” to hear 5he umbers of COVID patients after attending the meetings, even after tested positive.
“No explanation is acceptable for endangering the health of others,” he added.
This news comes from most of the regions across Iran that now appear to be in the grip of the sixth significant wave of the virus, this time defined by the highly infectious Omicron.
Iran saw its first “red” city on their colour-coded map five days back.
But by Monday, the number of cities classified with the highest raised the alarm had risen to 15, and total orange towns in the countries jumped to 61 from eight.
The number of daily cases doubled to 44 on January 30 from just a day before, but it came back to 30 the next day.
Moreover, the daily cases of the virus are reaching close to 29,000 on Monday, as per the health ministry reports. However, the number of daily cases had fallen by 700 earlier this month.
According to “Ebrahim Raisi” statement, which came last week, he will suspend his regional travels until the following notice as cases are increasing with each passing day.
However, their government is still on the way to announcing the restrictions in response to rising infections.
Health officials have also continuously called Iranians to come to the hospital and take their booster shots. So far, 17 million people have received their third dose of a booster shot, while more than 54 million have not received their two doses.
