According to the Officials sources, Jordan will remove all remaining coronavirus restrictions, which is separated from the vaccination requirements, in the coming weeks.
Authorities discarded most curbs related to the pandemic in the middle of last year. But there are some restrictions on public gatherings and reintroducing PCR testing for those travelling into the Kingdom in November after it entered what administrators expressed as a third wave of the pandemic.
The country recorded infections have since risen by 40 percent to 1.5 million, and it is officially stated that the deaths due to COVID-19 risen by 16 percent to 13,554 people. In the last two months, there is 20 to 30 percent of [peope who took PCR tests in the Kingdom of 10.7 million people have tested positive.
According to Prime Minister ‘Bisher Al Khasawneh’, “the government is on the path to declaring the end of measures regarding the coronavirus pandemic and a transition to habilitation with the pandemic and its different variants.”
“After that, they will be in the safe zone in the confrontation with the pandemic.”
Lifting all the pandemic restrictions means restoring the tourism sector, which contributes to the fifth part of the economy before the pandemic.
Low-cost airline traffic from Europe picked up in 2021, but tourists who were not ready to stay in the Kingdom of Jordan and they always preferred to stay out of the Kingdom since November. Hotel occupancy is running at seven per cent.
The official unemployment ratio hovers around a record high of 25 percent. The economy has been inactive for more than ten years, as per the government’s data, which showed 2 percent economic growth in 2021, as compared to a 2 percent restriction in 2020.
According to ‘Saeed Jaradat, a member of the government Pandemic Committee had suggested to the government scra[pping PCR test is required to do as well as encourage people to enter airports.
According to the Jaradat, it is just the start of the total transformation in dealing with COVID-19.
He further stated that this would turn on vaccinations, and they also provide a “green pass” which will give the proof of the vaccination, and it is required to enter businesses and government departments.
As per the sources, less than half of Jordan’s 10.7 million population has been vaccinated.
Adel Al Belbeisi, another health official, stated that no social distancing would be required at prayer by Ramadan, which starts in April.
