Saint Lucia: The Minister of Tourism and Creative economy, Dr Ernest Hilaire has invited the Soca Artists of the country to register themselves for this year’s Power and Groovy Soca Monarch Competitions. The deadline for the registration for this year’s competition is May 31.
The Minister of Creative Economy highlighted that the organizers would not be accepting any entries after Friday Midnight, May 31. The Groovy and Power Soca Monarch competition is an annual event held in Saint Lucia.
Duri8ng the competition, talented musicians of the country get the opportunity to show their command over their craft. The event is a means for the people of the country to highlight some of the biggest and most influencial artists of the country.
The event in question is scheduled to be a part of the Saint Lucia Carnival. The organizing committee of the Saint Lucia Carnival have reiterated that the Soca Competition, both the Groovy and Power edition are important part of the country’s carnival lineup.
The event attracts a number of patrons who grove and move to the beats of Soca and encourage the participants to give their best. Minister Ernest Hilaire, who handles the responsibility for the Carnival and Festivals of the nation, took to his social media account to share these details.
He invited all the talented members of the community to register and participate. Further, he also shared the directives given out by the organizers which needed to be complied with.
The interested artists must complete the electronic form, of registration. The organizers need an image of the competitor along with the form.
Further, they also have to share the song that they want to perform on and one backup song in WAV or MP3 format.
The organizers cautioned the participants to make sure that the submission in the Groovy Soca category does not exceed a tempo of 130 beats per minute. Meanwhile Power Soca submissions should play at a tempo faster than 130 BPM. They further noted that the songs of each category should be classified correctly to qualify for the competitions.
On June 2, a panel of judges will listen to all the submissions in a closed listening session. The judges will then shortlist the best applicants, who will move on to live competition in the Quarter Finals.
