St Kitts and Nevis: Dr Terrance Drew – The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis has addressed several concerning issues of national matter during an interview held on May 11, 2023, at the Koi Resort. He stressed the importance of the housing initiative and called it a revolutionary step which would also offer tons of benefits to the locals.

According to the recent information, the update was shared by Prime Minister Terrance Drew through his official social media handle and explained his stand regarding the “housing revolution”. He added that the housing projects are also set to offer a medium of employment to the local labour workers as 90 per cent of the people will be recruited from St Kitts and Nevis.

Furthermore, Prime Minister also stated that the local workers and contractors are the first priority for the construction of the housing projects as St Kitts and Nevis government is looking to provide better employment and working opportunities to them. He also added that the roofers, painters, carpenters, masons, steel benders, and heavy equipment will be provided with every facility to assist them in their work.

On his part, Deputy Prime Minister, who is also responsible for the Housing ad Human Settlement, Dr Geoffrey Hanley, also addressed his fellow citizens regarding the housing projects. He outlined that the National Housing Corporation (NHC) and the Government have signed a mutual contract with East Coast Housing Development, a Trinidadian-based developer.

The contract will also provide finances and deliver 2,400 smart houses over 4 years, divided into 600 each year under affordable costs. The roundtable meeting attended by Prime Minister Drew also featured his address regarding the assurance of good quality houses to be given to the people of the Caribbean nation.

He also emphasized that the local workers should be the ones to get benefits and employment opportunities from the project, said PM Drew. He stated that the government is pursuing this vision of building houses because of various reasons, as there is a need for affordable homes among the people.

In this regard, the PM also noted that the people could get a real stake in the nation and a chance to build their wealth through such initiatives. Moreover, Prime Minister further addressed that a housing fair will be organized very soon by NHC, along with a website launch mentioning all the necessary information regarding the development project.

While concluding his interview, Prime Minister noted that the houses would also consist of a refrigerator, stove and solar water heater for EC$ 111,000 for a 1 bedroom, EC$ 213,000 for two bedrooms and EC$ 297,00 along with EC$297,000 for three bedrooms, respectively.
