Egypt: The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) has started the first events of “cinema and civilization” under the title “Shady Abdel Salam and the Search for Egyptian Identity.” The event started at the Grand Theater at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and witnessed a cultural and artistic festival, one of the first of its kind.
As per the reports, the events have been organized by the NMEC within the framework of cultural and artistic programs to revive the art of cinema amid the presence of many public figures, ambassadors, artists, art lovers and critics and book and filmmakers.
The executive president of the NMEC board, Dr Ahmed Ghanim, inaugurated the event while welcoming the guests. He expressed his happiness with this ceremony and embraced the museum, noting that this celebration comes as the beginning of a series of events organized by the museum entitled “Cinema and Civilization.” He said the event had been held within the framework of cultural and artistic programs organized periodically to revive cinema’s art.
Furthermore, it was stated that the event features one of the most prominent Egyptian arts throughout history, including the Egyptian civilization and its archaeological treasures in many cinematic works. One of the highlights of the film The Mummy, whose story is about the Egyptian royal mummies largely found in the museum, is one of the masterpieces of the late director Shady Abdul Salam.
He added that the ancient Egyptian civilization had inspired filmmakers for many years in Egypt and the world, making this civilization spread everywhere, as cinema represents a bridge between peoples. He noted that the cinema is one of the most prominent tools of knowledge and an effective cultural means to improve society, as It plays a significant role in shaping his values, habits and art.
On his part, director Sharif Fathi said that the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) is the most appropriate place in the world to celebrate director Shady Abdel Salam, who has his unique cinematic heritage. “His heritage has made him gain a very high position and global appreciation, either as a director or as a decorator and clothing designer in several Egyptian and international historical films,” said the reports.
“During the ceremony, a documentary on the history, work and life of director Shady Abdel Salam was presented, and an extensive seminar was held in which a number of colleagues and students of the late Shady Abdel-Salam participated about his life and work,” added the updates,
Furthermore, the event also saw Dr Rahma Montaser, one of the students of the late, who was his assistant monitor in the movie The Mummy, and Ansi Abu Saif, assistant decor engineer for the Mummy movie and the decor engineer of famous films such as the days of Sadat and Kit Kat, etc.
Following the seminar, the film “The Mummy”, produced in 1954 and directed by the great director Shady Abdel Salam was shown, who honestly and realistically observed the case of stealing Egyptian monuments and saving the mummies.
The film won many international awards, especially since it was and is still one of the most prominent cinematic works in Egypt and the world that raised important issues of the ancient Egyptian civilization. The whole world stands before her greatness and behind her knowledge and knowledge.
The event concluded the seminar of Dr Majid Faraj, the researcher and historian, in which he talked about his work as an assistant to director Shady Abdel Salam and the research, preparation and preparations over five years for the film project “Ikhanaton.”
It was mentioned that the journey tells the story of King Akhanaton’s life, his message and tragedies, and a photographic review of experimental scenes from the Akhanaton film project that passed away by Director Shady Abdel Salam before his production.
