On the 26th of October 2023, the Cabinet of Kuwait took a historic decision for women. The Cabinet of Kuwait approved a proposal to provide children allowance to women workers in the private sector. The decision in this regard was taken on the presentation made by Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister. The aim of the decision is the protect and empower the women working in the private sector.

It is to be specifically mentioned that Kuwaiti women have made significant progress in the different field of private and public sectors. This field includes Politics, Business, Law, and education,The healthcare sector, etc. Moreover, women in the country have broken many gender-related stereotypes.

The present decision will benefit those women who are working in the private sector. These will allow them to avail the facility of children allowance in case the father of the children cannot earn any income. At the same time, if the father is not receiving any salary or assistance from the state in that case, women will also be eligible for the children’s allowance.

The sources familiar with the matter opine that this will send a sense of security among the women in the private sector. As children are individuals who need special attention and care but any financial hardship can affect their future . The Cabinet expressed the commitment of the Kuwait government to ensure the formation of rules, regulations and policies that will enhance the confidence of the women workforce.

The children allowance can be utilized by the women workers on health and educational facilities for their children. The Cabinet also confirmed that even in the future, the Government will do its best efforts for that making the the best environment for the Qatari women in the country.

Meanwhile, many women’s organizations expressed gratitude and happiness over the decision of the Cabinet and hoped that the decision would benefit women in many ways.
