PM Philip J Pierre clarifies role of Jeremiah Norbert as minister

Saint Lucia: Philip J Pierre, the prime minister of Saint Lucia, brought clarity towards the intentions of the government and the responsibilities of Jeremiah Norbert after joining the cabinet as a Minister for Crime Prevention in a recent encounter with the media.

Jeremiah Norbert became a part of the cabinet of the prime minister as a Minister for Crime Prevention and Persons with Disabilities recently after resigning from his role as speaker of the house. The assumptions on his impact in the new role are made in the media which was addressed by PM Philip J Pierre.

On the questions about the national security plan in the nation and the approach of Minister Norbert, PM Pierre said while clarifying that the responsibility of national security does not belong to Norbert. He said that he is the Minister of National Security and PM himself is responsible for his duties.

About the role of Minister Norbert, PM Pierre said that he is expected to bring together the law enforcement authorities and departments and guide them with the ideas that could lead to the suppression of crime in Saint Lucia.

PM Pierre hopes that he will be effective in preparing the structure which will eventually lead to the public safety and security of the nation. He will also be responsible for observing the actions of the law enforcement officers and helping them out with all the necessary providence that can give them an edge over the criminals.

The intention behind the selection of Jeremiah Norbert for the role of Minister for Crime Prevention is to utilise the experience of the MP on the field against crime as he is a former police officer.

PM Pierre mentioned in his statement that the prior experience of Norbert will help the nation to reduce and neutralise crime. He can use his authority with proper focus to point out and take action towards the issues.

Before this, PM Pierre talked about his commitment towards the reduction of crime in the nation multiple times and his support to the officers to fight against the criminals. In his recent multi-nation summit, he also raises his views about crime in the region and the importance of collaboration to solve the issue.

Philip J Pierre also gave the role of Minister for Persons with Disabilities to Jeremiah Norbert alongside the Minister for Crime Prevention. Minister for Persons with Disabilities is the new position introduced by the PM to serve the requirements of disabled people.

Minister Norbert is seen as an ideal candidate to handle this responsibility as he lost his right leg in a bike accident during the time of the last general elections. Even after the accident, he was able to mark a landslide victory for the Saint Lucia Labour Party in Micoud North.

PM Pierre said in his statement that this move by the government will help the nation to also become an ideal place for disabled people. This will bring the disabled people to the mainstream and will increase their role in the building of the society.

Philip J Pierre also added in his words that individuals like Jeremiah Norbert are the living example that what a person with a disability can achieve. Norbert is an inspiration for disabled people and a statement that they are not less than anyone in society.
