Dominica: The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica under the leadership of serving Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is taking steps in the way to build a new electricity power plant for the nation. For the fulfilment of the project, the government is seeking the approval of the national parliament for a credit facility which will be discussed in the session on Monday, 29 April.
The project will be discussed in detail among the members of the parliament to move further with the visionary project to fulfil the energy requirement of Dominica during the constant growth period. Parliamentary approval is required for the officials involved in the project as it will allow the finance for the development of the new project.
As per the reports, the new electricity transmission network is planned to spread between the locality of the Fond Cole, on the western coast of the island, to Roseau Valley, a locality in the southwestern part of Dominica.
Irving McIntyre, the Minister for Economic Development, Finance, Social Security, and Climate Resilience will take charge in favour of the resolution on behalf of the government. Minister Irving McIntyre will present the plan to the parliament and initiate the resolution process for the authorisation.
It is said that the ask for the credit facility by the government for the new electricity transmission network project is around a hundred and four million East Caribbean Dollars. After the resolution, the demand will be presented in front of the International Development Association (IDA).
The decision is made by the government while taking note of the growing stage of the island nation of Dominica and its increasing demand for energy with constant development around the sectors. The government is looking to advance the geothermal resources of the nation to fulfil the demand with uninterrupted energy availability.
It is mentioned that the government is planning to connect the geothermal power plant of Laudat, a village in the central southern part of the island, to the Roseau Valley hydroelectric power plants leading all the way to the sub-station of DOMLEC at Fond Cole. The project is intended to distribute the electricity to the consumers in a better and undisturbed way.
Reportedly, the government is also going to table another motion which will be the supplementary estimates for the year 2023-24 and intended for approval in the national parliament. The estimated amount calculated is around 52,441,040 East Caribbean Dollars. With all this government officials are also making steps towards the amendment to the Tax Information Exchange Act with the introduction of a bill.
