St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew unveiled the portraits of the national heroes who contributed in the Independence of the nation. The portraits are the beautiful artwork of Vaughn Anslyn, which are displayed at the Government Headquarters.
St. Kitts and Nevis’ Independence Day is a joyous and significant occasion celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor every September 19. The date marks the nation’s freedom from British colonial rule, as it gained independence in 1983.
As per the sources, the festivities commence well in advance, with preparations including parades, cultural events and flag hosting ceremonies.
This year, St. Kitts and Nevis for the 41st Independence Day celebration, has decided the theme ‘Together, a People, Proud and Strong: Independence 41’. The dynamic and unifying theme is crafted by Vincia Alexander of Lime Kiln Project Extension of St. Kitts who selected this from more than 200 entries, submitted at the Independence Theme Competition.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, revealed the theme by making an announcement during the Sitting of the National Assembly on July 05, 2024. He expressed that the theme reflects the essence of the national identity and call to celebrate the collective achievements, to continue building a future filled with hope and togetherness.
PM Drew shared the pictures of the portraits on his official social media handle and said that as they enter the mouth of the Independence, they took the opportunity to reflect and appreciate the dear land of beauty of St. Kitts and Nevis.
He expressed that those who have contributed significantly to the national development, especially the national heroes who are all on display at Government Headquarters through beautiful artwork by Vaughn Anslyn.
Prime Minister referred to the great works of the heroes and said to use them as examples of selflessness and sacrifice for the betterment of the nation.
Vaughn Anslyn is a National Artistic Icon. The extraordinaire has set the stage for a remarkable 41st Independence Day with his decoration of the entrance to Government Headquarters.
The artist was born in the Island of Nevis, where he has become a renowned name when it comes to art. His colourful life is a journey that has influenced his creative pursuits, which range from portraits to murals, event décor, signage, carpentry, sand sculpture and bodypainting.
Anslyn taught himself all art forms when he was in the pre-era of his teen years. He continued to perfectly grow his natural talent through practice and polishing his skills.
His work is prolific across St. Kitts and Nevis and made its way across the globe to London, Miami, New York and even Dubai as demand for his increased talent.
