Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit visited the construction site of the International Airport Project, last week. There, he examined the site and witnessed the work in progress of the airport, before the official ground-breaking ceremony.
Reportedly, the official ground-breaking ceremony has been scheduled to be observed next month i.e. on November 09, 2024. Prime Minister of Dominica has also shared the glimpses of his visit from the site and expressed himself.
PM Skerrit expressed further that he met with the representatives from the Montreal Management Consultants and the contractors. The contract is given to China Railway No. 5. Members of the Ministerial Sub-Committee were also present there.
He said that he is pleased by seeing the progress that they have seen so far and is excited to invite all to join them for the significant national event, to be held on November 09, 2024.
PM Skerrit urged all to take pride in the transformation project that holds up the potential to unlock numerous opportunities for economic growth and development.
The International Airport Project has been the main focus of national development plans for decades that gained momentum with signing of a $1 billion contract between the Government of Dominica and Montreal Management Consultant Establishment (MMCE) on June 09, 2021.
Skerrit explained his decision to delay the ceremony until after the work that already commenced on the site and acknowledged the unusual timing of the ground-breaking. He stated further that he delayed the groundbreaking, as it is supposed to be done before the beginning of the work. He felt that it has been a while that they talked about an international airport.
As per the statement by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, every government in the history of Dominica both pre and post independence have made an international airport as the center of their development plan.
Dominica’s people were weary with politicians, governments and parties that are rightly so, who said that they would build an international airport. He said that the people will hesitate, so don’t go and break the ground and let’s bring it to the point where one can see the alignment of the runway.
