Egypt: The Central Department for Digital Community Development at the (MCIT) Ministry of Communications and Information Technology introduced an online safety program for the National Council Women in Cairo and Assiut.

The program promotes online safety and fundamental ways to be safe from online threats and dangers.

As per the reports, the program introduced by the (MCIT) Ministry of Communications and Information Technology included the framework and foundation of the digital citizenship safety program.

Furthermore, it is reported that the training program has successfully trained approximately 80 NCW (National Council Women) female trainers, which comes under the specific program (TOT) Training of Trainers.

As per the officials from MCIT, the program was focused on providing online safety measurements and preventive strategies for digital citizenship, which commenced on November 30th and December 1st.

According to MCIT of Egypt, the primary motive of the training course was to introduce the concept of digital citizenship and its fundamental pillars among the residents and people of the country in the field of Information Technology.

The program offered by the General Department for Digital Community Development also shared various practical applications related to the program. The officials conveyed that the introduction of the course included the ‘Be Internet Legends’ program provided by Google.

Moreover, as per the sources, the programs were introduced to spread awareness about online threats. The initiative was the collaboration between the Digital Citizenship step and NCW (National Council Women).

The collaboration came within the vision of “You are Safe” under the theme of “No Electronic Blackmail”. The program and it’s initiative support women and girls against violence and electronic blackmail, and online risks

Additionally, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has been working hard with partners, both local and international, to invent and develop preventive measures to protect young people and children from digital abuse and online hate with the help of raising awareness about the dangerous outcomes related to the use of the Internet—especially social media.

MCIT has been working towards providing safe cyberspace for the people of Egypt, teaching the different ways to fight violence and cybercrime, and promoting the use of safety programs.

The authorities expect that the Digital Citizenship program will make a significantly positive difference in online safety.
