Riyadh – Saudi Arabia proudly clinched six medals at the 65th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held from July 15 to 21 at the University of Bath in the UK, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.

This year’s event saw top young mathematical minds from around the world competing in a rigorous two-day examination. Hadi Al-Aithan from the Al-Ahsa education department led the Saudi team’s impressive performance, securing a silver medal.

Bronze medals were awarded to Youssef Bakheet from Yanbu, Mohammed Rabie from Madinah, Muath Al-Qahtani from the Eastern Province, and Ahmed Al-Shehri from Riyadh. Mohammad Al-Ghamdi from the Eastern Province received a certificate of appreciation for his efforts.

The Saudi team’s participation was organized under the auspices of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, known as Mawhiba, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

Mawhiba’s International Olympiad program is a key component of their 20 initiatives designed to cultivate the skills of gifted students through advanced curricula and developmental programs.

The annual competition, which featured teams of up to six contestants, tasked participants with solving three complex mathematical problems over two exams, each lasting 4.5 hours.

This year’s event continued the tradition of challenging young mathematicians with problems that test their creativity, logical thinking, and deep understanding of mathematical concepts.

Since Saudi Arabia began participating in the IMO, the country has amassed a total of 77 awards, including 12 silver and 46 bronze medals, along with 19 certificates of appreciation.
