The United Nations Office of Project Services (UNOPS) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) participated in the III Week of Technical Discussions on Regulation.
The event brings together a series of debates on good regulatory practices in Brazil, which aim to improve the institutional capacity of agencies at the federal, state and municipal levels.
The week of discussions is being promoted by the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) and integrates the qualification initiatives of QualiREG, the Brazilian Regulation Quality Improvement Program.
The United Nations Office of Project Services (UNOPS), an agency specializing in infrastructure, project management and sustainable procurement, participated this week in a series of debates on regulation together with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The event, promoted by the Federal Comptroller General (CGU), seeks to disseminate good regulatory practices in the country, improving the institutional capacity of agencies at the federal, state and municipal levels.
The III Week of Technical Discussions on Regulation was held online and integrated the qualification initiatives of QualiREG, the Brazilian Regulation Quality Improvement Program. QualiREG is a partnership between CGU, UNOPS and UNDP to foster a culture of systematic evaluation in regulatory agencies, supporting these organizations to improve their internal and external practices.
At the opening of the III Week, the assistant federal secretary of internal control, Gustavo de Queiroz Chaves, highlighted the importance of the meeting to share successful experiences and difficulties common to the agencies.
“We live in a unique moment in which it is necessary to strengthen the role and credibility of state institutions, and I don’t see how this can happen without an improvement in the regulatory environment”, pointed out the secretary.
The UNDP Assistant Resident Representative in Brazil, Carlos Arboleda, highlighted that the partnership with UNOPS and CGU helps to promote the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
“Our joint actions have strongly contributed to public policies in the area of regulation, and I want to reinforce the UNDP’s commitment to continue supporting such important initiatives for the country’s development.”
For the director and representative of UNOPS in Brazil, Claudia Valenzuela, QualiREG brings innovative aspects to the country’s regulatory environment. “We, as the United Nations, always seek to strengthen our partners, improving their institutional capacities and, consequently, the delivery of public services.
We are certainly going to do a lot of innovative things with this partnership,” she said.
