Saint Lucia: The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre recently attended a ceremony to mark the official commencement of the $135 million Global Ports Holdings project. The project is being implemented with the aim of increasing the capacity of the Port Castries and Soufriere Waterfront.
The ceremony to signal the commencement of the project was hosted on April 30. Prime Minister Pierre was accompanying Deputy PM and Minister of Tourism, Ernest Hilaire and other cabinet members to the event.
The ceremony was also attended by stakeholders from Invest Saint Lucia. PM Pierre was delighted to be a part of the ceremony to mark the beginning of this momentous occasion.
The government of Saint Lucia s making sincere efforts to upgrade and modernize the tourism infrastructure of the country. The investment in the upgradation of the port and waterfront will help in the development of ethe tourism sector of the country.
With this development, the shores of Saint Lucia will be able to welcome an increased number of cruises and thus boost tourist footfall. The project once completed will allow large cruise ships to dock at the port and waterfronts.
Prime Minister Philip J Pierre has shared the various steps that the developers will take for the upgradation of Port Castries and Soufriere Waterfront.
The project will require dredging at Pointe Seraphine. Further the developers engaged for the construction will build a Boardwalk from San Soucis Bridge to the Vendors Arcade.
They will further rebuild and expand the Vendors Arcade as a part of upgrading the tourism infrastructure of the country. The further Prime Minister Pierre Highlighted that they will build of finger piers at the Arcade.
The old Customs Building will also be demolished and a new Customs Building will be rebuilt from scratch. Further, to ease the experience of travellers, they will create parking lots and construct a Fishermen’s Village at Banane.
PM Pierre Highlighted that they are working on completely upgrading the Soufriere Waterfront. The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia also highlighted that they are looking forward to this partnership which will complement the government’s work towards the rejuvenation of the City of Castries.
