St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew recognised the retired teachers of the nation on the occasion of World Teacher’s Day. He honoured the teachers for their dedicated service towards the country and in educating its citizens.
PM Drew took to social media and shares the glimpses on his official facebook handle. There he posted the photographs and wrote a note in the honour of the retired teachers of St. Kitts and Nevis.
He mentioned gladly in the note that today, in recognition of World Teacher’s Day he took some time to visit the retired teachers from his constituency to personally thank them. He presented gratitude to them for their dedicated service to the people and country.
Reportedly, the retired teachers who were recognised were Venessa Clarke from St. Peter’s, Halliday from Conaree, Grant from Keys Village and Wilson (Nisbett) from Cayon.
Prime Minister Drew further wrote in his note that he taught himself for two years and he understands that teaching is a critical role, and this profession plays an important part in building the nation.
He further added to his note and praised all the teachers. He said congratulations to all the teachers and on behalf of a grateful nation he extends the deepest gratitude to the teachers for their invaluable contributions.
Apart, this Minister of Foreign Affairs – Denzil Douglas also congratulated the teachers of the St. Kitts and Nevis and wished them Happy World Teacher’s Day.
Douglas emphasized that the wishes are for all the teachers in St. Kitts and Nevis who are working at the various levels and are involved in Pre-School; Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Education 2024, considering the Theme: ‘Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education.’
He stated that the teachers are appreciated for their dedication, contribution and commitment towards the Children of the Nation and to their overall academic journey and success through the years.
Minister Douglas said that he understands this very well that some of their challenges that they face in and out of the classrooms because, once he himself was a teacher.
He noted that, not all daunting experiences, but there are good times too, and especially in the good conduct and behaviour of the children. He expressed that in spite of the challenges, the teachers face, they continue to nurture, train, assist and educate the Children to be productive Citizens and Adults.
