St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew witnessed the launch ceremony of new hatchery and arrival of the new farm equipment. The ceremony was organized by the SKNLP government and Agriculture Minister – Samal Duggins in association with the Republic of China (Taiwan).
While sharing the glimpses from the ceremony PM Drew extended his gratitude towards St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) government, Minister Samal Duggins and the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their strong collaboration.
According to Prime Minister Drew hatching has a brighter future and will transform the poultry industry.
Reportedly, the Ministry of Agriculture will continue its commitment to advance agricultural development and food security with the official commissioning of the Bayford’s Layer Chicken Breeder Farm and Hatchery.
It is an ambitious project, that made possible through the generous support and partnership of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, which is a significant stride toward strengthening the local poultry industry.
However, the establishment of the chicken hatchery serves as a strategic step in reducing dependence on imported poultry products and building a sustainable model for future growth.
It has been equipped to provide high-quality chicks, technical resources and essential infrastructure. The facility will empower the local farmers that will foster the growth and resilience in poultry production across the federation.
They expressed the deepest gratitude to the partners from Taiwan for their enduring friendship and commitment to help them in building a self-reliant agricultural sector.
The hatchery is a testament to what they can achieve through collaboration and shared vision. It is an initiative to reduce the food import bill by 25% by the year 2025. Together they are hatching a brighter future for St. Kitts and Nevis.
As per the sources, St. Kitts and Nevis has embarked on a bold journey to align with 25 by 25 Agenda of CARICOM, which is a transformative vision for reducing imports of 25% by December 2025.
Through extensive consultations with the dedicated food heroes, the farmers themselves have made it clear that one of their biggest challenges was land preparation. With the procurement of brand new tractors and backhoes, the farmers are now truly ‘Set and Ready’ for the year 2025. Together, the Ministry and the farmers aim to build a more resilient, self-sufficient St. Kitts and Nevis.
