St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew officially launched the Cyber Security Training Initiative, which is a transformative program, designed to equip locals with the much-needed skills to thrive in the global digital economy.
The Cyber Nations Program 2025 launch ceremony was held on Tuesday, Feb 18, 2025. PM Drew said that it is a cutting-edge cybersecurity training initiative, launched in partnership with Protexxa, which is a renowned Canadian cybersecurity platform and services company.
He also shared the glimpses from the launch ceremony and expressed that they are embarking on a mission to train and certify 100 individuals in the field of cybersecurity. According to Dr. Drew, this program is about empowerment and about giving opportunities to people and providing them with real, in demand skills that can transform their lives.
Moreover, the initiative will help in protecting the nation and the future in order to transform the St. Kitts and Nevis into a Sustainable Island State. “This is how we power progress,” said PM Drew.
The security program will cater to 100 people and will open doors for career growth, financial stability and national resilience in an era where cybersecurity is a booming sector.
Prime Minister Drew hailed the programme, considering it as a strategic move in advancing the Sustainable Island State Agenda of the twin-island nation. He emphasized that the program would provide a way to the well-paying careers, which is also a national priority for cybersecurity resilience and economic transformation.
Dr. Drew said that they are building a nation that is not technologically advanced but also resilient. We must equip the citizens with the necessary skills to engage meaningfully in the digital economy, not just as consumers with the skills but as professionals, entrepreneurs and problem-solvers in the global marketplace.
PM Drew enlightened all that the transition to e-Governance requires robust digital protections and that alongside training professionals in cybersecurity. The initiative will engage 25,000 citizens with it, to improve their digital literacy and security awareness. It will also ensure that the entire nation is ready for the digital transformation.
He added that this is not just about jobs, it is also about ensuring cybersecurity preparedness for the St. Kitts and Nevis’ leaders, making them attractive to investors and securing the digital infrastructure as they move towards full e-Governance.
The launch was attended by the Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, Senior Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas, Isalean Phillip, Permanent Secretaries and Directors from the Ministries of Education, ICT and National Security and Senior Management of the Step Program.
