St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew acknowledged the medical equipment donation made by the Government and people of Taiwan. They granted this to continue their long-standing friendship and support.
PM Drew quoted that the donation of vital medical equipment was made on May 13, 2025, to make another step forward in strengthening the healthcare system and deliver quality care to all. He further referred to this grant as partnership in action.
Reportedly, the St. Kitts and Nevis through the Ministry of Health received a generous donation of wheelchairs and other essential medical supplies from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) that was facilitated by the Cao Zhong Zhi Foundation.
The donation includes several medical support equipment which includes over 87 wheelchairs, 36 toilet chairs and 64 walkers which was officially handed over during a brief ceremony held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the Joseph N. France General Hospital.
The Prime Minister and Minister of Health – Dr. Terrance Drew accepted the donation gratefully and stated that it will significantly enhance patient mobility and overall care services at the nation’s main public health facility. It will also cover other health institutions and various communities, where they are mostly required.
While presenting, the Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis – Michael Lin expressed his confidence in the effective distribution of the items. Considering this, Lin stated that he believes that with the cooperation of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social development and Constituency Empowerment, these items will be distributed to those in need across the island of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Prime Minister Drew also reaffirmed Taiwan’s long-term role as a valued development partner for the twin-island federation.
Dr Drew shared that Taiwan has consistently been a partner with St. Kitts and Nevis in various areas of endeavour, with health being one of the main areas in focus. He added that they want to express their sincere gratitude. These types of equipment are greatly needed for the people in St. Kitts and Nevis and the health sector of the island nation.
Prime Minister Dr Drew stressed upon Taiwan’s assistance to the advancement of healthcare delivery in the Federation that extends beyond the donation. He highlighted the deepening of collaboration between healthcare institutions in both countries.
He further mentioned that they are now forming sub-committees between the JNF General Hospital and Taipei General Hospital to facilitate direct knowledge transfer, technology sharing and mutual support.
PM Drew took the opportunity and used the occasion to renew the call of the government for Taiwan’s inclusion in international bodies such as the World Health Assembly. He said that Taiwan continues to be on the cutting edge of medical development and technology.
Therefore, they believe that Taiwan should be at the table and should be invited to be a partner and a collaborator. The nation is the one who would bring its experience and its knowledge to contribute to the health of the world.
Prime Minister Drew ended his address by expressing the deepest appreciation for the Government of China (Taiwan) and the Cao Zhang Zhi Foundation for their continuous commitment to the health and well-being of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
